MT. BERRY, Ga. – After 31 years of service, Berry College Police Department Chief Bobby Abrams has retired.

“I have been here since 1984 and, at some point not too much after that, Bobby came on board and I have known him first as a security officer then as Chief of the Campus Safety,” Chief of Staff Gary Waters said about Abrams. “Bobby played a very important role in transforming Berry Campus Police into a highly professional, student friendly organization.”

Jonathan Baggett, who has been a part of the Berry College Police Department for more than 25 years, is taking his place as Department Chief. Ryan Chesley, a Berry College graduate, was promoted to Major/Assistant Chief.

A retirement reception was held for Abrams on Wednesday, March 21 and Abrams last day of service was Friday, March 23.

“This job is about relationships and about people and all of you all are a very special part of my life over these years,” Abrams said about his fellow officers and others in attendance.

Many members of Berry’s Police Department as well as other faculty and staff members attended the reception to honor Abrams. Wearing a t-shirt that read “The Legend Has Retired,” Abrams was presented with gifts and thanked for his many years of service.
